Greasing the leader/tippet

I have a how to read rivers and streams video. The narrator keeps saying grease the tippet up to 1 foot from the fly for emergers. (so the fly will sink 1 foot below the surface for emergers ) Anyone know What kind of "grease" is he referring to.

Any kind of paste floatant like Mucilin, Gink, etc.

Thanks , I have mucilin , you probably prevented me from using axil grease. lol
