A few years ago I went on a backpacking trip that included a couple of 12 year old boys. One day we bushwacked into a nice little lake. The boys were fishing with spinning gear. Their casting technique was to have about 3 feet of line out of the rod tip and then cast two handed, over the head, as if wielding a Samurai sword. After about an hour, the inevitable happened. One of the boys hooked himself in the back of the head. It was a barbed treble hook with one point in past the barb. So there we are, a mile from the trail and 9 miles from the nearest road. We tried the method in JC?s link. It wouldn?t budge. We removed the lure and cut off the extra two hook points and decided to try pushing it through. That didn?t work either. So the kid wore his body piercing until we hiked out the next day. Just another reason for barbless hooks.
