About a month ago I asked for help in finding the right flies for a quilt that my wife was going to make to be raffled off this spring for our local TU chapter. I thank all who sent me ideas and expressed interest. From those ideas I came to the conclusion that the only suitable fly for this quilt would have to be 3-D. So, with the help of my wife's scraps left over from her sewing classes (she is a Family and Consumer Science teacher - Home Ec. for those who remember when it was called that) I set out to develop "fabric" flies that represented some patterns used by most fisherman.

Some of you asked to see the finished product, so I am proud to say she did an outstanding job (of course I am a little biased). Below should be pictures of the complete quilt, borders (she tells me that is important), and the fly patterns that make up the six fly squares. Not pictured are those squares that one can see on the quilt such as the fly fisherman, trout, canoe, and pine tree.

The quilt material is 100% flannel. It is considered an "oversized queen" and that is why I have taken pictures of it placed on a queen and king size bed. The backing is solid burgundy flannel.

After finishing this project, she has made a wall hanging with the TU emblem in the center that we will give away on March 3 at our annual banquet. Last night she took some scraps and created a throw pillow with to match. The raffle for this quilt will begin in mid-March and continue until mid-June. If anyone every gets to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, or Tioga County, during those months you just might find the quilt being displayed by local merchants throughout the county. We hope to select the winner at the annual Laurel Festival in June, need not be present to win! Anyone interested in purchasing tickets they will go on sale March 12 for $2.00 per ticket / 3 for $5.00. How we would arrange the exchange of $ for tickets would be arranged individually by contacting me at my contact email address listed on this site. All money goes directly towards the Tiadaghton Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Had to throw in that plug, whether you want a ticket of not take a look and let me know what you think.

I really believe my wife did an outstanding job and the end result matches or exceeds (biased) most other quilts I have seen recently being auctioned on line. Look out Orvis and Cabelas!
