I think it is interesting to point out that almost every single one of these "myths" relates to social status in the fly fishing world. It seems as though these myths stem from an idea of superiority. I can just see some yuppy from Park City or Aspen, or a jerk off guide from Jackson Hole for that matter, policing the banks of a trout stream critiquing every angler on the water. The fisherman who believe most of the myths, and fish accordingly, are the ones who give the rest of us the "snob" stereo type. So thanks to all who have pointed out that these things are in fact myths of fly fishing.
