Default 2 piece rod separating while casting-tips to solve problem?

Was conversing with a fellow flyfisher last week, that I run into from time to time on a particular stream, and he complained of his two piece fly rod separating twice that day while casting. Wasn't sure just what to tell him other then to make sure it was firmly seated when first joined. I usually insert the sections at an angle and twist together with light pressure. Any other/better advice that I could pass on the next time we meet? By the way, he had an 8 1/2' rod; but, I'm not sure of the brand. Should have asked if it'll make a difference.

Tell him to wax his ferrule(s). Problem solved.(Hard parrafin wax...NOT soft). You can get a lifetime supply at Feathercraft.

I use beeswax. A lifetime supply came in a flytying kit I bought 35 years ago. Beeswax is a little stickier than parafin, yet prevents your ferrules from ever sticking.

Wax the ferruls, but also check to be sure there are no cracks in it.
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.

    Good advice all around.

Beeswax - if your ferrules are loose

Hard paraffin wax - if your ferrules are sticking.

I got my beeswax at an archery shop and the paraffin wax is a candle, like JC uses.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day. And as they say here in north Texas: Don't BBQ naked! Wear the chef's apron !

    Cheers,
