Ferrule cement (tip top adhesive)

What, if any, is the difference in the ferrule cement(tip top adhesive) made by Gudebrod and Flex Coat and the hot melt glue you find in craft stores?

I'm not sure, but I avoid using any of those. I worry that if my rod is stored in a hot car during work, that the cement could soften and allow the tip to rotate or even come off. I've gone to using 5 minute epoxy exclusively on my tips. It holds and it can be removed with some heat if necessary. I use normal 2 ton epoxy or rod bond for the rest of my building.

Ferrule cement and tip top sticks have resins in it that hold better than regular craft store hot glues. Regular hot glue will soften up on a hot day and the tip will either come off or spin on the blank.
Instead of hot glues I use Fletch-Tite. A glue designed to hold fletching to arrows. It can be bought in either a tube or as a stick. I use the tube. I don't care for epoxy due to the amount of heat needed to get it off. That much heat can destroy a rod tip no matter what the blank material.

Hot glue comes in different "models" for different things. I think I have about 3 different types in the garage. You probably can find one that would work for you but I prefer the 5 min epox. Specifically I like those little packet that Cabelas sell. They are kinda pricey but one pkt per rod and its not a big deal. If you think ahead you probably have other things that you can repair with the extra epox. Allyn

Definitely Flexcoat 5-Minute Epoxy at this time, although there is a new 5-Minute GEL, for tip tops, coming onto the market. It might just be superior to anything we have, it stays put and completely fills the voids since it isn't viscous.
