I am 80% through Dave Hughes book "Wet Flies". A "wet" spider is a very old style of wet consisting of mainly soft soft hackle. The body is typically just the thread base itself used tie the hackle over. The hackle is wrapped from the hook point to 25% of the shank length of the hook. A soft hackle wet is a fly typically with a floss body (though some use herl and some are dubbed) with a sparse soft hackle at the front (1 to 2 turns). The flymph or wingless wet typically has a tail. The body has a fuzzy dubbed appearance. The soft hackle is wrapped over the front 1/3rd of the hook. maybe 4 total wraps.
