When you lay down a thread base do you run some cement along it?

Is it at all necessary? If so do you do it just on wets and not on dries or vice versa.

After some time dragging a fly Hither and yon thru the water does the cement soften and perhaps come off.

Does it add any significant weight to tiny drys?

Someone thought that glue on the materials let drys wick and absorbe water quicker because it made the surface wetter. Does that even make sense?

Someone asked these questions of several of us Gnu Bee tiers at a local flytying meet and no one had the same idea on it. The pro didn't show up that night so we were left with these questions.

Thanks
