Default Elk hair Caddis ? Found An Excellent Source For Elk Hair!

Just had to share this great image taken and sent to me by a fellow fly fisher friend and Genetic Hackle producer - Doc Knoll from Prey Montana, USA.

Doc recently took this image just outside of the "Park". Hopefully a pesky fly tyer doesn't live in that house!

WOW! Is there such a number as GAZILLION?
Cuz that's my guess of how many size 16 Elk Hair Caddis flies that elk could produce.
I wouldn't bother him for any hair though, maybe a cow elk instead.
    Thanks for the photo!

Hard to believe, but the things can be a pest in the winter. We used to live in Montana, know the area well and often saw them grazing on 'landscaping.' But,,, a 7x7 is not a common sight, for sure.

Must be tricky to clip the small qty of hair off one as to not irritate it in the process- even just enough for a dozen EHCs.

Clamp a scissors between your teeth, hop on back and hold on tight!

Here's a pretty good source as well (if you're brave). Don't miss the ones in the shade of the building

We were watching one like that from a restaurant window at Mammoth in October - waitress said it had tried to tip over a Mini Cooper that parked too close to it's "harem" the day before.

I would have paid money to see a bull elk stand on a Mini and bugle!
