still so confused

please help an old man here. maybe it's true you can't teach an old dog, but i still want to learn.

i've broached this subject here before. czech nymphing. please explain something to me. in all i've read (including trying to read the articles on faol), there is something mentioned in the technique involving leading or pulling the flies.

is this not creating the dreaded "DRAG" i've always heard was such a bug-a-boo in fly fishing? i have yet to actually witness someone using this technique and am unable to purchase books or video (fixed income) so please, will someone try one more time to help me understand.

The way I understand it is that you move the flies just a bit faster than the current (but with the current) so they look like they are swimming up to the surface to hatch. It is suggested that you pick something floating on the surface, some foam, another insect, whatever, and simply move your rod tip just a bit faster than that to pull the flies up toward the surface.

what Thunderthumbs said. You got to remember that Czech flies are very, very heavy. You are in a sense HI-Sticking. Bouncing the bottom fly (the heavies) down FAST water.

so in other words, this is the "hopper/dropper" thingy only mirrored upside down with the heaviest (larger) of the flies on the bottom bouncing and the smaller fly (flies) off the bottom.
