Default My 1st striper fishing photo essay:

Tied these flies with Dave Micus' help:

Checked out a duck hunting museum:

Waited for the wind to die down for a week and finally made it out on the water to fish in sight of Manhattan:

After all the preperation, travel, and waiting, I caught my first striper. This would be the only fish of the day despite our best efforts. While the fishing had been hot a week before, the giant school of herring had moved far off shore taking most of the stripers with them, and the bite wasn't on like it had been:

Got boarded by the coast gaurd who made sure that we had a whistle, and other required items. No tickets for us.

Saw the Mummers Parade in a south Philladelphia neighborhood.

That one striper planted the seed and plans are already being made for round 2, sometime this summer.

    Benjo,
    Thanks for the great photos!
You did a great job tying those striper flies!
Catching your first striper was very important, to get pumped about the next time.
Is that fly with the white head and eyes a Thunder Creek style??
    Thanks,
    Doug

Nice work. Now you're officially a pirate. I bet Micus has got you all primed with places etc. My suggestion is come a little earlier or a little later. The fall is my favorite time, Spring is fun but the summer slacks off a little. Let me know when you head out this way. If its in my area I'd be glad to join you.

Pinching every penny now for that summer trip aren't ya? I traveled to Cape Cod this past fall to feel the bend of my 9wt with the tip doubling in front of my eyes and then having the stripe rub the leader/tippet against some rocks and broke free...
    Fishing from jetties stinks sometimes.
Glad you got one to hand.
