    Default Fly Tying Light

I am looking for a compact Travel Tying Light. Thinking of a LED rather than a hot halogen. Maybe even a battery operated LED.

    Any suggestions or comments

    Thanks in advance.

I got a 3 light LED at Walmart; clips to the bill of your cap and the batteries will last a long time. Our family was recently on an out of town trip and while everyone slept I tied flies for a couple of hours with no other lights with this light that clipped to my cap. It won't break the bank either at $9.97.

    Good luck.

I found an LED battery powered light at Lowe's Hardware. It was sold as a gas grill accecesory.

It has an array of 7 high output white LED lamps, an adjustable goose neck and a magnetic base with a clamp. I thought it would be ideal for tying, however I find the color balance to be a problem. The light is too strong in the blue spectrum and causes colors to look weird.

Although I sometime use it when traveling the color thing drives me crazy. I prefer to tie with a color balanced compact fluorecent lamp such as 'Daylight' or 'Ott Lamp' brand. Cool lamps and excellent color spectrum.

I also tie with a ten buck LED flashlight. I bought mine at a local hardware store(home depot and lowes hasn't put all of them out of business.........yet). I clip it to a wire stand.

Yes, the colors are way off. It doesn't bother me while tying though. Just don't use it to select colors of materials.
