    Default detergent

A frequent poster on another site has suggested that detergent should not be used on aluminum reels. Detergents are alkaline and as such likely to etch aluminum and start the path to corrosion.
This concept was HOTLY debated, many offering that they had washed their aluminum reels in detergent for years with no ill effects.
What is the truth? I don't know, but I offer this here for your consideration.
