Quick question about a salmon recipe: what is blood plume? Is it the tip portion of marabou that is rather even? I have found a recipes for salmon flies that call for yellow, orange, hot red, and purple blood plume marabou. Thanks.

i have seen marabou referred to as blood quill. it is the very fine marabou with very little stem

That makes sense since the recipe calls for several of them palmered forward. It just did not look right with the marabou I have in the package. I'm wondering now if it's a case of pick and choose or if there are packages of them for sale separately. I'll have to check the three or four suppliers of materials in town. Thanks.

They are sold separately..in fact, just recently I saw a site that had pictures of the three different kinds...of course I can't remember where right now but I'll keep an eye out....
Hi Duckster, it's okay. You don't have to go out of your way for it. I was just curious. I've never been a stickler for exact recipes. I guess it's due to hours upon hours in the kitchen modifying the cooking items.
They are sometimes called "shorts' or "blood feathers" and are packaged as strung in bunches.
