Default Built a rod wrapper yesterday... pic links added..

Have been knocking around a design for a rod wrapping stand for some time now. Finally had the time and energy to build it yesterday afternoon. I'll post pictues of it as soon as I figure out how.

What are the two forward arms for?
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

The foward arms are where you wrap the rod. They hang out over the table so you can get closer to your work. The top rests are to hold another section. I was going to put a drying motor on it so you could finish a section while you wrapped another. It just didn't work for me, so now it is a fancy holder.

Here is a pic of the one I use. I made it a few years ago. I move the rod and find the eye bolt that lines up best. Simple and effective.

The only thing I haven't done yet is apply some sort of dry lube to the bed to make things slide easy. I am hoping that the thead will feed fine firectly from the spool to the rod without going through a screw eye. Any opinions on that?

The only thing I would worry about is having to move the rod more as the thread comes off different parts of the spool. Just a guess, I haven't worked with one like that.

Pretty neat Satch...used some great plywood there man!

I like the concept but tend to agree with Mike that the thread may be a tad bit close to the rod for the angle changes that occur in wrapping. Haven't tried it but just my thoughts as well.

That plywood is called Baltc Birch it is GREAT stuff to work with. It is metric at about 11 or 12 mm thick, but not such a big deal.

I plan to line the V-notches with felt so they will be smooth enough to slide the blank pretty easily. I'll see how it works. I can alway replace the short block the threader is mounted on with a longer one and stick the proverbial screw eye out on the end of it. I almost did it that way to start, but decided to try this cause I like thins simple...
