My earlier post might have been a little brief. For fishing from shore in most of the lakes that I fish, intermediate (type I) or type II, as someone else mentioned, are the lines to use. Any heavier sinking, you end up stripping too fast to keep the line from catching weeks or bottom. The lakes are pretty shallow - a Rajeff cast would put one in 10' of water.

I also have type II, III, and 6 sinking lines for fishing from a boat or float tube. Casting these is not a big issue - roll cast them to the surface before overhead casting them.

On rivers/streams, the sink tip might be worth considering - not sure I would use an intermediate line on moving water. But, I don't fish moving water much.
