    Default Home or Away?

As a new kid on the block so to speak I was just wondering if all you US flyfishers venture further afield for your sport, now I know that some of you fellas could drive for ten hours and still be in the same state!, but have any of you ventured to the UK or Europe?, I have fished in Poland, Slovenia and Italy all very different in their approach to fishing, Slovenia and Italy very C&R orientated, Poland everything in the river was edible by somebody or something!. Can really recommend Slovenia, pristine rivers (Soca and Sava Bohinka), wild rainbows and browns some well into double figures, HUGE grayling plus cheap to fish and stay, so you never know may see you on the banks this September.

    Richie,

Curious about your experiences in Poland, as we're going there this July/August; our daughter's a FFer currently in the Peace Corp in Ukraine and the hope is we can find some /troutgrayling fishing there; we'll be in or near Krakow for maybe 1.5 weeks or so. any info you - or anyone - could pass on would be greatly appreciated; neither of us have ever caught a grayling!

Long shot: we're possibly spending a few days at a spot on the Czarne Dunajec River near Zakopane - don't even try to pronounce the name of it! Heard there were grayling in the river somewhere, but don't know if there. Any tips on anything related to the fishing there, websites (in English) to check, licensing, etc.?

    Dziekujem!

I have crossed the border to fish, but only into BC. I have no real desire to go overseas, spend tons of money, and fish places that are different than the ones close to home. I can get different by driving an hour or two, desert is a left turn out of town and mountains are a right turn. I have long since lost the desire to go fish someplace just because it is famous or "traditional", too. Not that I would pass up an all-expense paid trip to somewhere the trout rise to dries. Plus, my home to the Lowell fish-in is about the same drive as Paris to Rome. With fewer people.

I have gotten to fish quite a few places and countries over the years, including two trips to Labrador for Atlantic salmon and somehow I think I would be quite happy just staying at home and catching the pittance we are able to catch here in AK. There are only a few streams with healthy salmon runs within 10 minutes driving and some great "sneaky creek" type fishing under many noses...

Not much, but my advanced age and infirmities leave me with little else worth doing...
