    what size (length) should you use, or does it depend on the pattern? I've never tied any before and would be tying them for bass and panfish

    It depends on the length of the fly you want to tie. I have some large bass flies with 2 inch tubes,bluegill with 1/2 inch. Monsters for pike and musky.---BILL
