I wanted to tie a Chief Needabeh, but I didn't have any yellow hackle, and my red whiting hackle was grizzly marked. I have thought that some fish (bass, especially) respond to the color red near the surface, (deeper than 30' red turns to green due to the shorter wavelengh being unable to penetrate further into the water). Possibly they associate it with bleeding, injured prey. I love tying streamers and consider them some of the most beautiful and artistic expressions of our craft, so I tied this pattern. I don't know if anyone has done this before, but I've never seen one exactly like this. I call it the Red Tide.

The Red Tide

Hook: Cabelas 4X Streamer Hook size 6
Thread: Black 6/0 Danville denier
Tail: red bucktail
Body: flat siver tinsel
Ribbing: oval silver tinsel
Wing: 4 Whiting hen neck feathers, Badger-colored.
Hackle Whiting hen neck feather, red grizzly.
Cheek Imitation Junglecock

I'm going to try the pattern out Monday.

If anybody knows if this pattern is someone elses, please let me know, so I won't take undeserved credit.
