Coltranem, here in Montana many of the fly shop owners slow down in the winter and years ago I talked a local shop owner into giving me some private "refresher" lessons during the winter. For about $20 a session I got the best experience one could ask for (and a good friendship.)He not only got me back on track, but he let me use several of his vises and got me going on many "local specific" flies. If this is an option for you, I would recommend it. We tied two evenings a week and the coffee, conversation and comraddery (3c's) were great. I think it pays alot to get to know and support your local shop owners and they can show you things that would take years to learn on your own.

By the way, I started 30yrs ago on a fixed vise and about 5 yrs ago switched to a rotary and will never go back.

    at least $.02 worth.
