The southern portion of the Kissimmee River Restoration is still underway according to the newspaper. The north lock in Highlands County was supposed to be blown up so that the water would return to its natural course through that area as it already does further at the south lock. This should also open up new fishing water previously blocked off by the north lock. The Kissimmee River as the article states is really not a river like it used to be, just a big canal that us locals call the Big Ditch. The northern portion of the river is to be restored next.
