The Oliver Edwards video that you found is a very good source for learning this technique aswell as learning some very good patterns.
We use the technique locally to catch our indigenous yellowfish aswell as in our freestone streams for trout as already mentioned, and it is very effective. The main advantage to me is that you are in good contact with the flies at all times and due to the added weight of the control fly, you can get the team of flies to the bottom of the river very quickly and keep control throughout the drift.
We fish it here with only one heavy fly (the control fly) and two lightly or unweighted flies that drift freely. The Czech Nymph patterns that are referred to above are describing the heavy control flies and you can use any of your standard nymph patterns as the other two flies in the team.
