Three of us fished the Ashtabula River (NE Ohio) on the 10th and 11th. Friday was great weather, but the clear skies kept the fish down. We hooked 8 and landed 5, my 27"er was the biggest. Saturday the weather was horrible and the fish loved it. Saw a lot of fish. All of us caught fish in a deep pool with buggers, mostly black. In the skinny water, the buggers seemed to scare them so we switched to eggs and nymphs and caught a few more.
I finally got the Total Steelhead Experience. I was fishing a hole about 15' upstream from a set of rapids. I hooked a fish and he immediately rocketed (the best descriptor I can think of) close to 100 yards downstream as I stood there with my jaw dropping. I hooked another from the same hole and he had to go 15 lbs. I saw him jump twice before he spit the hook. We hooked 22 and landed 7 on Sat. We probably covered 2 miles of river each day, man that is hard work, but I LOVE IT!
