bjanzen requested some help in constructing a less bulk nymph fly, these are a few things that I have learned while tying Czech Nymphs, which require very thin nymph body shapes....

1. Flatten the non-lead weight wire, from a tube shape to a ribbon. Place strand of wire on a hard surface, and flatten with a round metal bar, I use the shaft of a screw driver. The ribbon shaped weight is thinner and there is less bulk build-up from the thread wraps, use to secure the weight to the hook shank. The thread does not slide in-between the weight wraps. You will have a much thinner nymph body shape.

2. Start weight wrap from 2/3 back on the hook shank, wrapping forward (leaving one eye width gap at the head of the hook), then reverse wrap ending half way back on weight wrap. This way of wrapping, will also help set the basic shape of the Nymph's abdomen and thorax. This weight wrap will also help balance the nymph for proper action while fishing.

3. You can secure an cover the weight using some flashbou, or other mylar type strip to maintain a thin body.

When tying thin nymphs, think about ribbon materials, not round materials.
