Until the end of last week, the mouth of the Deschutes was the hottest fishing spot in Oregon for very large steelhead to 25 pounds. That has cooled as the fish have started upstream and spread out. Now with the latest rain, the hot spot turns to the coastal rivers. The Fall salmon bite is in full swing! They are running large and there are huge numbers of both chinook and silvers. Something odd about the silver regs this year. Even with huge numbers you cannot even retain the hatchery silvers. Go figure. There is no rain in the weekly forcast, so the bite should go on for some time as the salmon will not continue far upriver.
