A dam and silt removal project has begun in the small west central Michigan town of Hersy about 7 mile west of Evart. The dam was build in 1858 and is in an "Unsafe" condition. The silt is contaminated with creasote from the old logging rail building days. This project should help in the clean up.
At one time the Michigan State Record Brown Trout was from this river!
A Google Search for "Hersey River" will bring you to many articles about the project and the history of the river, a major tributary to the Muskegon River, Michigan's 2nd longest river.
