    From Blue Sky Furled leaders

"How is a furled leader different from a braided leader?

Our furled tapered leader is not a "braided" leader. Conventional braided leaders have a hollow center that tends to pick up and hold water which in turn makes the leader heavier and effects casting performance. When cast, a braided leader also has a tendency to 'splat' the surface of the water and spray the small droplets contained in its core. Many say that these negative characteristics put down or "spook" fish. BlueSky furled leaders have a sold core and do not have these negative characteristics. Additionally, most braided leaders are too limp to fully turn over the tippet and fly."

I have been reading about furled leaders, and was thinking of giving them a try. I understand
that a person can use a longer tippit section. ????

    Thanks

    JAd.
Normand is correct on the differance.
I make furled leaders using 6/0 Uni tying thread. 2 & 4 lb. flourocarbon and .005 Nylon clear quilting thread.
A properly made "Furled" leader can be "Cast" by it's self. Thus you may turn over 4 - 5' tippits.
The break strength of a furled leader is approx. 3 times the material used strength.
May I suggest Kathy Scott's DVD available from Gate's Au Sable Lodge (a sponsor) to get you off on the right track.
P.S. The cost of the furling board is less that 2 purchased leaders!!

    Thanks Jack
I would think with a longer tippet , you would have less drag. How would they be on clear smooth (pretty water)Mig water.I fish a lot of small mig patterns in central Pa a lot of pressured fish.
