Late August is never prime time in the Smokies, but the park is fishing well. Many of the lower elevation streams like Little River and Abrams Creek are fishing OK, but not great. While hatch activity is at a low, terrestrial activity is at a high point for the season. Ants, beetles, and inchworms are favorites to imitate. Get to 3000' or higher and the fishing can be excellent. These can be medium to small streams. A few have road access but most are hike-in affairs. The fish are rarely picky and wet wading is the way to go. Basic dry fly patterns #14-16 will draw fish to the surface.
