A click drag should be loose enough to allow you to pull line off w/o much resistance. But if you ( or a fish ) pull it off really fast , and the spool starts to turn faster than you are taking line, it will "overspool" resulting in snarls, rats nests and bad words, then the clicker is not doing its job. The drag for fighting fish is your fingers on the palming rim. IMHO a palming rim is a wonderful drag since it allows you a simple variable drag which can be modified to suit conditions such as amt. of line out, strength of water flow, etc.
