T&T makes a 9' 3wt.
Looks absolutely beautiful. The green wraps with gold tipping is a great combo I'll have to keep that color scheme in mind for future projects. I built a RX7+ 6wt last winter for my father and...
You might want to consider Gudebrod #6779 med. Green.
Either way some test wraps on the grip section are always a good way to see how various threads look on the blank.
Hope this helps
What you and I consider "run of the mill" might be different, however I have been satisfied w/ the quality of Anglers Workshop cigar grips.
Here is a pic of one of their grips on a fiberglass rod...
Purple with a couple strands of krystal flash was always a good good summer color for me. #2,4,6 bunny leaches tied on a Mustad 9671 with bead chain eyes are winners as are egg sucking leaches; ...
Flying in to Anchorage is just the beginning of the adventure! Alaska has a limited highway system and the places accessible by road can get very crowded in July. July is also when salmon are...
I also find GudeBrod metallics hard to work with. The inner thread tends to show on longer wraps so I only use it for trip bands or inlays.
I've never used the Sulky thread but have heard...
Looks really nice darrell. :D Wish my first rod had turned out that nice! If I could add a little suggestion it would be to do the ferrule wrap closer to the end of the blank. As close as...
From what Ducksterman had said in his original post I assumed that he was thinking that the Cabelas LST and Sage SLT were one and the same. I was trying to point out that they couldn't be since...
If you spray some Krylon Fixatif over the signature it will keep whatever ink you used from "lifting". For example a Sharpie marker will run/smear when coated with finish but if I spray it with...
The Cabela's LST is manufactured overseas and the Sage SLT is made in Washington? Pretty big difference if you ask me.
Call me crazy but I think stealth makes a difference. Especially on small creeks. All my reels are black and most of the rods I fish have a matt finish. Waving a stick in the air with a shiny...
Whenever I tie a fly that has floss I coat the floss with Sally Hanson Hard as Nails finger nail polish. It gives the floss the "wet look" and makes it more durable.
I didn't know Teton reels were made in the U.S.A. That's great to hear. I'll be looking closely at their gear next time I'm shopping for a reel. :)
Since a good reel will last many many years I'd splurge and go with a Ross. The Cimarron is a great reel but personally I'd go with the Rhythm or Evolution. Both these reels are a little over...
Hello, I signed a recently completed blank with a gel pen and coated it with finish. I've since learned how to use a quill pen and would like to remove the old sig and use the quill for a new sig. ...
I think vtfisher hit the nail on the head. According to the Maine department of parks, state park visits are down significantly from years past. I read in the newspaper last fall that even visits...
Greg makes a good point. Most nymphs (that I tie) are on a 1x or longer hook while most dries are tied on a standard size hook. I like to save $$ also and use a mustad 94831 hook for both nymphs...
Pretty good steelhead river and conveniently close to Portland. If you stay on the East side of Portland the Sandy River is as little as 10 to fifteen minutes away. The crown Point highway...
Call me crazy but I switch to spinning gear if the fish are holding deeper than 10' ft or so. Casting sinking lines sucks IMO and the cast is what fly fishing is all about IMO.. Your opinion,...
Putting the guide in a old vice makes the filing way easier. I say old vice because I have a tendency to hit the vice jaws as I file the guide ft.
Another vote here for the ortho rubber bands. With single ft guides I'll place the band on the middle of the guide ft. This keeps the guide from rocking back as single ft guides have a tendency...
Small renegades work well for me. Anything smaller than 22 and I quit fishing. :o :D
Although I'm not very fond of tourist I have to say that Fishing in Maine is spectacular in the summer. Come, visit, catch some very large brookies, go home and keep it a secret. :D
The cheapest place that I've found to buy hooks is Anglers Workshop. I bought a quantity ($100+) from js stockard because I had a coupon that evened out the difference and they are a regional...
