Anybody know if the spool for the 1.5 will fit the 1 reel? The diameter, width, and weight are supposed to be the same for both sizes. I suspect they just made the arbor smaller for the 1.5 size.
Simms recommends Revivex to renew the DWR on their waders. I already have some Nikwax TX-Direct. Does it work as well as the Revivex? Does Simms sell a special version of Revivex, or is it the...
Reminds of a trip I took to NY state. My friend's dad drove a group of us to the Ausable near Lake Placid for a day of fishing. Everybody fell asleep on the drive home--including the driver. It...
I use 12 lb invizx for tippet when fishing for redfish and bones. I haven't noticed any problems with durability and knot strength.
It's good stuff. It has nice movement and sparkle. It blends in well with marabou and rabbit strips. I have tied up some small jig flies with it and used it to accent the heads of other flies.
Here's my "soft hackle" variation.

I thought it looked like there was some flashabou mixed in with the krystal flash. I can imagine swinging it like a streamer, but would you really dead drift it like an nymph or egg pattern?

Does anyone know how to tie this fly? It's supposed to be a killer for...
Wow, that was a great article on the roadkill. I wonder if coho hit the fly the same way that trout do.
Has anyone tried combining an articulated leech with a double bunny?
I'm thinking it would be easier to tie than an articulated leech, and the extra hook in the tail would increase hookups. I'm...
Most full sinking lines are some sort of dark color, and you generally use a very short leader with them. You generally use a full length leader with intermediate lines. So, your line color...
How did you swing the chance to fish on Philmont property?
I have fished the Cimarron many times but never at that location. It gets hot that time of year, and the water gets hotter as you go...
Cool! It looks almost like a kreh loop with a single turn.
Do you have a link to the no name knot? The only thing I find when I google it is a knot that might be OK for attaching the bite tippet to a bimini loop in the class tippet: ...
Dunfly, the double figure 8 does make a non slip loop. I bet it is pretty strong too, since it is basically 2 double surgeons back to back.
I like the looks of that knot. Any idea what the breaking strength is?
I struggle with getting that knot to seat properly using 12 lb mono. How do you get it tight with heavy bite tippet?
What knot do you prefer for attaching a fly to 30-40 lb fluoro bite tippet?
Here's a pic of the type of weed guard I'm describing. I like the basic idea. It is easy to tie, and it is easy to add to flies that I already have. I imagine the 2 prongs protect the hook better...
I was watching one of Puglisi's online videos showing how to tie the EP Permit Fly. He tied in a V-shaped piece of mono just behind the hook eye for a weed guard. He said it was important to make...
They float very well and don't have any memory. They don't shoot as well as the Rio and Airflo lines I have tried. I noticed recently that Hook & Hackle is advertising a new "Rise" line.
I'm not an engineer, either. I got the method from Claude Freaner's article on furled leaders. Basically, you don't get the correct diameter for the twisted leader by multiplying the size of the...
The calculated diameter is based on the combined area of the strands. Interestingly, it works out to be twice the diameter of the monofilament that you start off with.
I tested the results by...
I came up with this chart showing the equivalent butt diameter of twisted leaders. Maybe some people will find it helpful for figuring out what size mono to use.
