The Pig Boat was in the back of my mind when I was typing this up. I might give those a try. Though I may stick with the barbell eye to keep the hook point off the bottom.
Thanks.

Over the last week I've set my fly rod aside (gasp!) for the ultralight spinning rod. I've been fishing the cove of a lake that is full of nice largemouth bass. In the afternoons darn near every cast...
as an update to my original post, I hit this lake again on sunday morning. A cold front had come in and it was cloudy, windy and cooler than it had been and some rain came through as well. I don't...
Cary,
Which end is the northwest end? Is that where the road passes next to the lake?
Were you fishing from a pontoon boat on saturday? I was there with my wife and a couple friends most of the...
Excellent info, Cornmuse and beedleach.
In my haste to get back into bluegill fishing, I always seem to forget my frustration from the previoous spring in not catching the bluegills right away.

I was out with my wife last weekend to my favorite warmwater lake. We weren't fly fishing, but trolling in our little boat with ultralight spinning rods.
I made it a point to check out all the...
Thwack (or others who've used the Pentax Optio) have you used this camera for any action type shots, especially in low light? I need to replace my Canon Elph, which was stolen a while back. I like...

A coworker went turkey hunting this weekend. I had asked him to get me a couple quills and some wing feathers for me if he shot one. Well, he did and instead of a few feathers, he brought me the...
Man, since sunday the weahter has finally figured out that its springtime here. Temps have hit the sixties, the sun has finally come out to play and the wind has been at least tolerable. Now I just...
Got skunked last weekend using a crappie candy and a jitterbee. I have a pile of various sized PTN and Hare's Ear Nymphs recently tied that I need to get out and test. My poor 2wt has been sitting in...
This week's fly looks like it'd be a crappie killer around here.
Looking at the photos, though, it seems to me that when you're pulling it through the water the spinner blade would hit the wing...
So did you steal the pencils from the golf course before or after you snuck onto the course to fish their ponds for feisty bluegill? http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/biggrin.gif
Neat idea!
I'm curious as to how you eat them when you don't fillet them? Filleted is the only way I have ever had them.
How do you get the meat off the fish once it's cooked?
If I'm too lazy to do a beer batter and fry up some bluegill fillets I like to saute them with salt, pepper, cumin, onions and maybe some fresh jalapenos. Scoop into a warm tortilla, top with cheese...
That griffin spider looks like a contender, too. I'll have to do some looking into them...
Thanks for the info.
I've only done a cursory search at this point, so if this info is readily available and I just missed it, I apologize.
Since my fly tying equipment got stolen when my house was burglarized last...
Jed and Harold,
Since I'm a couple hundred miles inland of the salty sea, it'll be quite a voyage for you Pirates to avenge this slight upon your piraty names.
However, the mighty Columbia runs...
Sorry to steal my title from Coach Robb's thread. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif About all I can do at this point is try and make light of the situation.
Last saturday night my wife...
I read the title and thought you were implying that Rick was a woman... :O
The problem would seem to be the coversion of bait and spin'ers to fly. Take the worst mouth breathing, beer guzzling bass angler you know, show him the movie than give him a fly rod....
This is not...

More hackle = better looking fly, I think. And I used olive dubbing on this one. Body is still too thick. I...
I'm learing to tie the SHWAPF from the beginners tying lessons on here. I tied a couple on sz 18 hook. I've never tied anything this small before.
Looking at my image, I obviously need to work on...
Got my flies last weekend as well. Now I hafta sit here and look at them until the weather warms up again. Argh!
I've tied them with the banded rubber legs and had good luck with them. I've also used chartreuse and olive chenille with success. I think these flies are great for experimenting with colors, etc.
