8) Yeah, what they said!
It ain't rocket science.
Simplify,simplify, simplify!
I bend hooks all the time. I've even been told to get bent!!!

I didn't trust my handwritting and so didn't want to write directly on the blank, so instead I wrapped an inch and a half section above the winding check with thread and wrote my name and rod...
I second using common cents to check out your rod.
It really helped me with an unmarked graphite blank!

Everyone had good advise! There are some real experts here!
I would just like to add that you never have to live with your first effort. When I made my 6'6" 2wt I decided to upgrade the guides on...
Quarter stick of dynamite, weighted, waterproof fuse.
I only dub about two inches of thread at a time. Size 18 and smaller hooks I dub about a inch of thread at a time. If I need more dubbing I add a little to the thread when there is a little less than...
I use Dai-Riki, too. Light gauge wire, small barb to bend down.
I also like the White River brand sold by Bass Pro.
Who makes those anyway? Does anybody know?
Tiempco are really nice but too...
Buddy, in this case I have to say that I'm tying the fly for me, too, not just the fish. My antron wing Adams are easy enough to see and catch fish just fine. It was my favosite "go to" fly last...
I never had luck using feather tips for the wings on dry flies until recently. For Christmas I asked Santa for a copy of the Flytyers Benchside Reference, and I must of been a good boy because Santa...
Thanks to both of you. Sounds like I'm on the right track, just need to tweek my technique (go ahead and shoot me for that).
I'll try the two hackle method first. On my first half dozen...
:?:
I'm interested in learning to tie flies like those described in Castwell's series "Flies Only" on this site.
I understand that the hackle has to be tied in an "X" pattern, but I've not been...
RonMT,
I tie my EHC this way too, but I have noticed that the hackle from my best capes gets bound down while the hackle from my pro grade cheapoes does not and looks great. :? I also brush my...

One word: Viagra!
Hey shad!
I love using hare's mask. Best nymph fur by far, IMHO. I blend some fur from the lower face area with fur from the ears. I really like the fur from between the eyes mixed with ear...
I go the eBay route also. I check out the auctions for styles I want and bid for those. If the hooks go for more than 1/3rd retail, including postage, I stop bidding. I have gotten great deals on...
You know, I'm really not impressed with the difficulty in breeding cree necks. ( don't take me wrong, there is no flame intended!)
I don't care what the color is, the variation, anything like that....
Ray, here's a link that shows another way of doing things. More in the line of what you said:
...
Like CKJ I dub a SMALL bit of dubbing at the rear of the hook. I place one side's fibbits on the side of the hook nearest me and tie them in just in front of that ball of dubbing. I use two wraps of...
I have a Danvice and I agree that once you get used to the 'feel' it's a very good vice. I can tie down to size 24 with one, the smallest hooks I have.
I would also suggest trying out a Griffin...
Sooo,
How much did you bid? (grin)
For a very simple tye, a beadhead caddis nymph is great in any stream where caddis are present. I also like X Caddis dries, and baetis nymphs.
Thanks for the info and opinions.
I appreciate it.

I would like to know if anyone here has used American Matrix blanks? They have the particulars I'm looking for (at least they seem to in the Common Cents database, I've never seen one for real)....
I have to agree with the Captn. Sounds as if your reeling in the line without tension. I try to keep the line clasped lightly between my first and second fingers of my casting hand. Gives me more...
