Hi there,
I am from Cape Town, South Africa and am very proud to see that our small trout streams have been mentioned in your unusual fly-fishing destinations. They are truely wonderful waters...
Lighter Side Answer: It's Gotta be Charlie Moore :D
I read recently in a Geirach book about those fishermen that you fish with that somehow always seem to catch more/bigger fish than yourself...
How can a wild 16" fish be stupid? It's got to 16 inches without becoming a clever fish's breakfast and now it eats all the stupid ones.
Alberto,
The Oliver Edwards video that you found is a very good source for learning this technique aswell as learning some very good patterns.
We use the technique locally to catch our...
I forgot to add:
With underwater shots you can't really aim so a good way to get a decent shot is to put your camera on burst mode and move it around while shooting. This goes in with the whole...
Hi Everyone,
We have a local Flyfishing/Photography club here in SA and these guys are really good!
check out http://saflyphoto.googlepages.com/
Not all pics are underwater ones, but you...
Ozzie Ozefovich's series of DVDs, the bits about counter currents in particular.
These DVDs forced me to think more about what i was actually doing while i was doing it.
Since I wouldn't be able to gain a sense of achievement from my own flies catching fish, I'd have to give realistics a try to at least get some sense of achievement.
If I don't get the hang of...
I must add that I assume that it must be some interesting way of packaging which makes me more intriqued to find out what the answer is.
Cheers

Hi All,
Could anyone possibly tell me how the original South Platte Brassies were packaged for sale?
It's for a local competition and no one has managed to get the answer.
Thanks
Grant.
I agree with you gonfishn. That's my approach. Find a couple of patterns that you are comfortable with that will cover all your needs, tie a dozen or so each in different sizes and patterns and that...
Hi All,
Is it not important to take the nature of the entomology of a stream/river into account too? Surely this plays a large part towards the characteristics exhibited by the trout inhabiting...
Like that good old saying:
"When I pass on I hope my wife doesn't sell my fishing equipment for the price I told her I paid for it."
What about Boa Yarn Spiders (Soft hackkles)? or is that too sacred to mess with?
If you glued your fingers to the cork, you'd have a great excuse to go fishing every day...
hehehe. had a good laugh when reading the subject of your post...
Relieved i'm able to admit it....
Hehehe - sorry to divert from the subject, but Darryl, I love your quote at the end of your message. I'm reading my first Gierach book now - Standing in the river waving a stick.
And thanks for...
I agree Allan,
I don't worry too much about the colour of the wingpost spooking the fish.
Thanks for the responses...
I have noticed trout on our local streams that have larger heads in proporsion to their bodies, which i assumed were just older trout who live in smaller streams that could be overpopulated.
I...
Hi Everyone,
Do any of you consider tying different coloured parachute posts for different light conditions?
A good example: I like to tie Yellow parachute posts on some of my flies because I...
hehe - Who teaches their 7 year old daughter to use the word bugger?
Interesting that. I always just assumed that both the fly and the name evolved from the Wooly Worm.
I tie off with a technique that Oliver Edwards calls the "Two fingered Whip finish" (I think) in his DVDs.
Sorta similar to a half hitch but the thread is wrapped a couple of times over the head...
Thanks to everyone for your responses. Great to hear some different concoctions from you guys.
Locally the loon products are very popular, aswell as Ghink and a product which is new to us (But...
I have heard that "overlining" a rod can help beginner casters get used to the feel of a rod loading. Since your rod is rated to take a 5 and a 6wt line, I would suggest using a 6wt line rather than...
Are Shilton flyreels available to you guys in the US?
They are one of our local brands that have just begun to have an impact in the UK and Europe and so far the guys there seem to be quite...
