Jim,
Are you talking about RES (red ear sunfish) or CNBG (copper nose blue gill) or something else? I don't believe CNBG eat a lot of snails nor, in my experience, are they commonly seen at 2...
Open water? Is there any other kind in East Texas? http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
HH,
I e-mailed the Tilapia picture to you. It can also be viewed at this site:

HideHunter,
Yep, you are right. Mine seem to top out at 10 inches but they get there fast and there are tons of them. 10 inch BG are commonplace in my ponds.
I generally agree with folks who...
beadleech,
Have you ever used an egg pattern for trout? The PomPOM is the identical thing except colored in tan.
Is an egg pattern fly fishing?
Is a "flesh" fly commonly used in Alaska...
There are so many good comments and questions on this thread that I would love to add my experience and questions to...but the thread is so long..is it possible to break it up into some separate...
HideHunter,
I like your style...however, being an unrefined Texan, I would have said you can call it what you want to, but if I'm fishing with a fly rod and inert materials, I'm fly fishing,...
billboytx,
I stocked 200 of them last month in a 1/4 acre pond designed for kids. I'm really interested in how your fish are growing.
Do you also have a high number of predators to keep the Fx...
I'm impressed you can get a three year old to concentrate long enough to catch one...my 5 year old grandson just does not have the attention span needed. He likes to fish, but always winds up...
HideHunter,
Back up the way you asked a couple of questions.
Yes, we use artificial feeding in one pond which has the largest BG and also hybrid striped bass (HSB). It definitely adds weight to...
Interesting topic. I have several ponds and years of experience trying to get them to meet objectives. Its all about your objectives.
I have found that if you want to raise really large BG, you...
countrybumpkin,
Welcome to fly fishing...once you start there's no turning back.
Good suggestions above to which I would add try wooly buggers in various sizes and colors. The small ones (12 or...
teasels,
My place is between Livingston and Lufkin out of Leggett...just a spot in the road on H59.
It doesn't get any better than East Texas small towns. Terrific lakes, large and small, all within driving distance, ponds to die for, withing driving distance of Arkansas trout fishing and Gulf...
If you are fishing a pond that has grass shrimp in it, scuds are simply deadly on every fish that swims in that pond. To have the grass shrimp, the pond must have some shallow weeds, like pondweed,...
While using a #12 squirrel tail nymph fishing for BG, hooked and landed a 6 lb LMB.
Not an overly remarkable story, except the 6 lb LMB was caught in a pond of less than 1/4 of an acre....very...
The BS works well in my ponds. Preferred colors are the yellow/black and rust colors. After the fish get "conditioned" on the BS, I do have to rotate them out for a few months before going back to...
1) Clousers
2) Charlies and their many variations
3) Seaducer
4) Cockroach
sodajones,
It certainly is not a dumb question...in fact is a question that has no general answer. The right answer depends on the body of water, what other fish are present, and what the best use...
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,
Build a pond and the man can fish and eat for a lifetime.
Owner/manager of several ponds in East Texas.
Rain is good...lightening is bad. Fish can really turn on just before and at the start of rain.
I've gone as low as 7 wt. and will not go any lower. Most all of my salt water fishing is on shallow water flats and the fish are always released. I take no pride at all in fighting a prized flats...
Most memorable...a 2 pound Bonefish, not just any Bonefish, but the first one I ever caught on a fly.
After that, I was hooked on not only Bonefish, but Tarpon, and Permit...but that first...
I'd take the TFO...cause I've "waved" it around along with the Orvis and prefer the TFO.
