Actually this makes allot of sense if you think about it. I don't fish dries for trout but the same principle applies I would think.

Great info Silver thanks.
Thanks for the info. I don't really fish allot of dry flies, sizes #10-12, as a rule but wanted to try out a few patterns this weekend. Will give the fluoro., tippets a try.
Mike
I read somewhere a while back that fluorocarbon leader/tippet material was not recommended for dry flies as it tends to sink faster then standard mono leaders. I was wondering how many others found...
I have a 5, 6 & 8wt Three Forks rods I got about 4yrs ago, all combo outfits, that have severed me quiet well with no problems. They cast just about anything I put on them. I did get separate rod...
Hey

Been fly fishing here in NW., IA for about 4-5yrs now and only seen maybe 3 other people fly fishing. Glad to see we do have a few others around.

Dave,
I believe your referring to the Floyd River which isn't really good for fishing right now had a major manure run off problem about a year ago, from allot of the farms stemming from about...
wish the smallies around here where that nice size, looks like a good time.
Mike
I tend to agree with you lastchance. When I came across these "Uni-Body" leaders a while ago, by Gary Borger I did get some of the Maxiam Clear to try it out. Then I used Stern and the cheapy stuff...
Silver,
Yea that's what I use also. I'll use blood knots, or double uni, when tying the butt & mid section together when making my own leaders but found it allot easier using the surgeon knot...
those are on my "To Order" list. I've read allot about them but haven't tried them yet. I can see a real benefit to using them tho.
Mike

Mike
Hello,
I was going through some of my old leaders & found a couple of 4X 7.5' taper leaders, knotless, that I've trimmed down about 8-10" over time and the rest of the leader is fine. I was going...

Hello,
Came across a interesting nymph 2 fly rig by Kelly Galloup called a "Drop Shot Rig w/Adjustable Dropper" it calls for some HI-VIS Gold mono for the butt section but can't find it in any of...
I know we got some Iowans here and thought I'd pass this along for those who may know friends/family memeber who haven't gotten their license yet. For more info check out this link:

One of my go too & favorite crappie flies is Al Campbell's Crappie Candy which basically a streamer. It was the first fly I used that was excellent for crappies and gills. Actually any of the...
Sure you can do that or what I like to do personally is to first rake all the underfur out and keep it separate the you can cut up the guard hair and mix them to the underfur depending on how spiky...
It also makes for some great dubbing by itself or blended with other materials. Makes some nice buggy bodies.
Mike
I strongly agree with you Paul. When I first starting tying my own flies about 4yrs ago he was also a big influence in my tying. The Crappie Candy was one of the very first successful flies I tied...
Here is a great article by Peter Frailey about using Woodchuck. I use allot of myself. Frailey has some excellent woodchuck patterns on his site and in this article:...
Rick,
after reading your article it reminded me of the first woven patter I tried, the tussle bug, caught several SM's and one of the largest crappies, on a fly, in one local waters I fish allot....
I think you'll find this article an excellent reference for dubbing blending & tools used

Scott those are some really nice looking Hare's Ear, can't go wrong with them. I especially like your soft hackle HE, at the bottom, one of my favorite soft hackles to tie and works very well for me....
