Thanks. Recently broke tip of my original bodkin. Was one of those with a 0.5mm 6-sided brass handles from a kit. Had a bead chain to a threader, but had separated long ago, but this lets it work...
Hi folks. I just aquired a Stonfo bodkin and am wondering if I can sharpen it without doing it harm. Was going to contact Stonfo, but their web site is almost entirely Italian (and not retail), and...
I tyed up some of these, but I had trouble using the specified kevlar thread as legs; would not behave when wrapping the ostrich plume hackle around them. Maybe it's just me 'cause I often...
I tyed up some of the House Fly pattern (Fly of the Week, Gretchen & Al Beatty - May 31, 2010). But I had trouble using the specified kevlar thread as legs; would not behave when wrapping the...
Thanks folks, got what I was looking for and more than I expected.
My local craft store has had several kinds of pens including Prismacolor, but never in the various shades of green that I wanted....
Which marker pens are good/best/no so good for flies? I will be using them on foam, rubber legs, synthetic & natural hair, ... Makes sense to go after some of the art pens with dual different...
One thing I've done with wine corks is to use them for fly display stands, if you want to display a few or just a place to hold them while you're tying. Just have to cut a flat bottom.
It's much more fun to get them with the bottle attached.
Dog fur, dust, goo. Sounds like dubbing with guard hairs...
In the book "Guide To Maryland Trout Fishing: The Catch And Release Streams", there is a pattern credited to Jay Sheppard called Sheppard's Patuxent Special. It is basically a ginger-colored bugger...
Unfortunately, can't get these directly from Renzetti.com; they are only being sold through retailers. (All) Y'all are convincing me though.
One limitation I'd rather it didn't have is that you...
Anyone sprung for one of these, or tried them out? The additional adjustment joints (head & arm) look helpful, but wondering if they and the aluminum construction will add up to too much...
It's been cold in MD since the first of the year.
I had decided in December to spend gift and bonus money to upgrade from my starter outfit to premium 5 & 8-wt rods and reels (it's painless to...
Thanks for the input all, quite a range of views and helpful info. Careful telling someone what to do or not to do or right/wrong on subjective matters.
I went ahead with black for looks and...
I've actually painted the hook to match the floss to get around this problem. Leaves the fuzzy/matte look, little effect on weight.
Something else to consider that I've seen with smaller foam flies it that if you have a sinking leader, it can pull the fly down. Switch to a more buoyant material, don't let it settle as long,...
For anyone else headed down this path, if you don't plan on replacing it in a few years, consider staying with a popular brand and model/series so that getting ink cartridges 10 years later won't be...
Hmm, well, chalk up some of it to being a beginner, some to being tall, thin, arthritic, poor of balance, and unsteady of foot, some to environment: streams with slimed rocks of all sizes & shapes...
Gonna be buying a couple of reels real soon, but can't decide on color. I've been using gold. Was going to go with black to be less spooky (debatable importance) and just cool appearance. But I'm...

Any comparison to Fitovers? I have a pair of these.
The bright color can sometimes allow you to see a strike that would otherwise be missed.
I read an article a year or 2 ago where the author was fishing in slow water with a lot of algea and such...
 Just in case, I will increase my outings by 20% to compensate.

I'm going to contribute by becoming fertilizer in the end.
