Well I hope things turn out for him.I have this question though: Why put out a post about why you plan to leave anyway? I've seen this on other forums & I don't see the need to do so. If you're...
weird-too bad that can't be transplanted to those exotic jumping carp in in the canal in Chicago leading to Lake Michigan. Those are a potential menace.
A lot of people say Brookies are dumb. There's been days on the Ausable River when I could not buy a strike-either I was fishing very poorly or those brookies are a lot smarter than folks give them...
Never used a popper but I've fished a greased up Muddler from time to time. Skated on the surface & twitched or "popped" it I've drawn strikes from Trout. I should actually do it more.
The do move back out to the lake but stay in close to shore not migrating out as far as Steelhead or Salmon. In Michigan they are a threatened species.
Neil M. Travis' farewell to J. Castwell was to me a fine memorial & fitting tribute to his longtime friend.
My hats off to you Mr. Travis for a suberb piece & my condolences to you on the loss of...

Same as you some tippet plus a stream thermometer and a couple of hemostats. A pair of scissor-pliers I had for 20 years just came up missing. Slipped off the retractor while fishing one day
I can only say be strong & remember the good times you both shared. God bless
Have a great time. A good source of information on The Traverse area is The northern Angler Fly shop.

I love him & wish he'd write another book like The River Home.
Interesting McGuane and Hemingway both spent a lot of their youth here in Michigan and used it as a backdrop for some of their writings. Especially Hemingway with the Nick Adams Stories with his...
I'd say the outfit isn't nearly as important as technique. Maybe I'm oversimplifying but if you have proper technique you should not have a problem rollcasting with any rod. I use an 8ft 5 weight and...
A good article.
I plan to visit both next time I'm there. Plus I want to hit the North Branch Outing club in Lovells and checke their shop. I want to go by June 17th.
Just bought a book by Thomas McGuane. Seeing his early life was spent in Michigan got me to thinking of other writers and notables that got their start here or spent time here fishing Michigan...

In colder weather I wear wool fingerless gloves. They've always did the job for me. They keep you warm even when wet. If you're cramping in warmer weather, I'd use neoprene .
When it's cold...
I wish I had saved some original covers and had them framed. I knew some guys that did that-really spruces up a rec-room or den.
Here's an example a reproduction of a 1942 F & S cover:

I've been up there once so far in May. Plan to go again either this week or next. I based my view on what I've seen the last several years compared to the 1990's. The core downtown used to have a...
