The propane smokers do work great. It easy to to maintain a constant temperature for a long period of time. At some point my gas smoker rusted out and I never replaced it. Now, I just smoke...

I agree that that Arkansas River in Colorado is a good choice. I'd be surprised if you caught anything but brown trout there. I prefer the section between Leadville and Twin Lake. Its a quite a...
It seem to me that the tubing frays less if you lightly hold the end together with the fingers of your left hand as you push the tubing on with your right hand. I push the tubing past the thread a...

For me, the dry fly hackles are too stiff to use on buggers. It doesn't seem to undulate in the water very much. I prefer softer and cheaper options for the small buggers like cheap chinese capes.
I also use bicycle grease mostly because I had some laying around. The brand is Finish Line teflon grease. Seems to live up to its claim of being waterproof.
I agree that wetting the marabou helps. I also like this tip from the archives:

I think it's much easier to leave the marbou on the stem...
Just out of curiousity, since the fly is tied clouser style, does the lip point up in the water?
Wooly bugger - #12 with a peack body and black rabbit fur tail.
The Alien is my favorite top water now. I prefer a chartruese body with yellow legs and foam.

One of my favorites is a Buzz Hackle #8, but I tie it in the Renegade style with the grizzly hackle in front. Toss it out and let it sit for a while then strip it a couple of times like a popper. ...
I just wanted to quickly introduce myself to the board. I've been coming here for a while for fly patterns, knots, etc. and finally decided to join. There's a ton of useful information and I really...
