If you do end up rewrapping the guide (and I personally would think that's the best way to go), try using a forhan wrap to secure the guide ...

Wraps are done, guides, and all in place! Takes some getting used to wrapping a rod, but it didn't turn out half bad. Finish glue is setting as I type this.
