Sorry to say, but you picked the wrong 2wt rod. I built up one of those Dorber 9' 2wt blanks and it was a huge mistake.
It is simply one of the worst casting rods I've ever had in my hands, period....

Nice build. I've seen that reel seat before and considering buying one. What is your overall opinion is on them.

Normand, here is a review of the new Hardy Trout Fisher.

I've had that very same rod in the review in my...
I fish my 2wt and 3wt rods in smaller warm water creeks, and I also use them at the reservoirs around here. I find that from a boat, casting to shoreline structure in sheltered coves, the ultralight...
Ultralight fly rods making fishing for, and catching bluegill, small stream trout, and such, MORE FUN. That's the name of the game here right? We fish because fishing is fun!
So why would I want to...
Jed, you bring up a good point. Pollutants are a problem in many areas, and eating fish isn't a good idea. That's kind of a problem here where I live. We don't have trout, it's all warm water. This...
JC, Great article. I have to chime on on this one. It is not PC to kill and eat fish anymore, in fly fishing circles that is, and especially trout. All you hear these days is how the fish have to be...
I love rod bond,it's just so user friendly. If you need something that sets up faster, U40 now has Quick Bond, I think it's a 10-15 min epoxy, but still has the same thick consistency as Rod Bond.

Bamboo Burl is a rubberized cork product kinda or whatever. Like Janus said, they are brittle, I destroyed one while reaming it. I just bought two more of these though at a certain place on the net...
I like both Up and Down locking seats, but I'd have to say that I prefer down locking seats more.

Sean, congrats on winning the boo. You really should give building it a try. There are plenty of good folks here that are willing to help out that's for sure.
I was intimidated at first when I...
I haven't built the 6wt, but I did buy and build the 2wt kit, and the Tradition II kit is the best bang for the buck out there.

I have a 5'3" Fenwick glass rod that I have used for tight areas. It roll casts very well. Roll casting is how I always fish the tight spots. I also have a 6'6" 2wt that I use now.

Andy, there is a review of a couple TXL's on the FAOL product review page.

A 2wt weight is not twice as heavy as a 1wt. Grain weight on a 1wt is 60 grains, a 2wt is 80 grains. A 4wt is 120 grains and a 5wt is 140 grains.

The skin I have would make for some nice nymphs. The hair is black of course with a smidgen of brown sprinkled in here and there. Very nice.
I prefer squirrel for nymphs, it's just so spikey and...
Well I haven't tossed the skin yet, thanks for the Borax tip. I'll dry the skin out and then use the Borax on it.
This is a discussion forum, and I have entered the discussion. If you want to discuss things over with Buddy only, then take it to the PM's.
Nighthawk, that was some good posting!
I don't chase 7lbs. buckets so I don't need a 9wt. I don't even need a 9wt for Lake Erie Steelhead, I can get by with a 6wt, and many of those fish are well over 7lbs. You are kind of missing the...
I've never seen natural black squirrel for sale, I agree with DDRRedneck500,
you have to shoot them yourself or get them from someone who hunts.
They are common here in my neck of the woods, and I...
Looks like some folks are going to extremes here. If I choose to fish a 2wt, I don't need to have others tell me I need a damn 5wt instead. I fish for panfish, I like 2-3wt rods. They work well for...
Thank you Sir.

I've been experimenting with many types of leaders for a number of years now.
For the longest time I've tied up my own knotted tapered leaders, but I'm not all that happy with the formula's I have....
Very nice grip! Where do you get the cork underlay? Is that just sheet cork?
Is it cheaper than burl rings? I need details!

Dry firing is not an issue with a good quality modern weapon. Some handgun designs like Glock require that you dry fire the weapon in order to field strip it.
Dry firing a handgun (with a snap cap...
