Try dipping either white or yellow pom poms (glo bugs) in the juice from sweetcorn. Use the corn to chum (more people cringing) the area. Dynamite for carp!
Has anyone ever experimented with this synthetic human hair to tie saltwater flies, or any flies for that matter? Was wondering about texture and breatheability. Any help would be greatly...
I too concur with this. Sometimes the catfish bite is better than the smallmouth bite on this area of the Susquehanna.

This certainly hasn't been my experience. I think carp take the fly extremely well. If I can get the fly to them without tipping them off that something is amiss, they take. Not all...
Glo bugs tied in white to represent bread or glo bugs tied in yellow to represent corn. Sight fishing is the key with carp. Put it in front of their nose watch the take and don't set the hook too...
My school of thought is that I tend to tie simple flies because I will fish tighter locations with a fly that only took 5 minutes or less to tie as I don't mind losing those as much. This in my...
Wolly worms, wolly buggers, clouser swimming nymphs, damsel fly nymphs, puke fly, and muncher nymph have all worked for me. And let us not forget crayfish patterns. Hope this helps.

A koi of that size would easily bring a $100 price tag with it. In my opinion it is worth far more as a target species to catch. If you think they are tough to catch the first time, try to...
Bill,
I have been fortunate enough to have caught 2 koi on the fly. They are a real spooky fish. For this reason I enlisted the help of a friend who bait fishes for them quite often. (He has a...
As John said they are grassers and very nice ones too. They are usually stocked to keep the vegitation down in a waterway. Congratulations on your capture(s).

Do not have any tips for you, but I want to wish you the best of luck in your pursuit.

Rubber bands for tail or leg material.
Pipe cleaners for weighted body material.
Foil potato chip bags in various colors can be used to glue to the foam for crease flies.
Pen bodies for a half...
Glo bugs tied in white resemble bread balls. As for a fly that looks like a single kernel of corn, yellow chanile tied on a Mustad 3366 #8 hook will do the trick. On the Carpanglers' Group website...
Not as good as it used to be, but still a terrific Smallie river the Susquehanna here in Pennsylvania.
Carpcrazy-with tying like that and you saying that you have two left hands...well I guess your nickname should be "lefty".

Sheldon,
Have you considered carp for their 2nd type of fish? This would really test them.

Usually if you wait until after Christmas it's even cheaper. Got all I'll ever need last year at K mart for $.10 a bundle. Better to wait!

Maybe to Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles or Ronnie Milsap, but not to me! JMHO! Seriously, it is a very good pattern.

God certainly does bless. Wonderful story. Congratulations are definitely in order. That is the way it should be: you hooked the fish, now you're hooked on the fish.

Great site. Lots of very useful information. Thank you! :D
Right now there is a fairly large population of snapper blues in the Cape Henlopin State Park area. I am new to salt water also, and this is where I fish along with OC Maryland also. Good luck!

I know of John from another site and believe me he knows what he is talking about. I would also like to add thatI have had success here in Pennsylvania using crayfish patterns and Ian Colin James'...
Thank you everyone! I have heard, but have never tried to use a latex caulk in place of silicone as you can just use water to smoothe out the latex caulk. I think that I read somewhere that the...
