maybe wading cows?
Fly fishing the Texas (and Oklahoma) panhandles is its own badge of honor. :)
Freezing those hoppers out! The panhandle gets the most severe weather in the entire state of Texas I think.
Walked out front, hopper nymphs were browsing in the flower beds. Time to dig out the foam and deer hair!
Thank you for this piece! I agree wholeheartedly that this is definitive fly fishing in my book, the epitome of the sport. Well, that and floating down a river in a tube, popping the holes as one...
Gracias sir!
thanks Andy! Looks like I need to get busy mapping this out. That and working out the lodgings. This is lining up to be a fine trip.
thanks Scott. Just PMed him
The http://ozarkanglers site, quite useful and appreciated! Plenty of data on the area. Guess I had better clean up the waders and get ready!
Dave
thanks very much! I am looking forward to this trip.
I'm looking at taking a first time fly angler out to fish in Branson, most likely this January. I've never been there and could probably just drive up and start fishing. But I was hoping some...

A good friend of mine who works in the bovine nutrition industry, is traveling to Arkansas in a short while. To quote him
"I've got business in Arkansas this week and will be traveling in the...
good stuff!!
I don't really have anything unique to add. I'll just say that Old Man Winter has been a hard a** all across the boards this one.
Yep, he did it. Bamboo is not sissy stuff :)
Thank you for that story Tim!
Many of us know and fondly remember Al and all the hard work and life that he flowed into fly fishing.
Fort Worth Fly Fishers is having Al Crise Day II
They are a delightfully beautiful fish, arguably one of the most beautiful in my book.
Looks like a great place to winter over. The feline situation is always a complicated bit of politics and negotiation, in my experience anyway.
Hope you guys can get in some AZ fly fishing this...
I attended a seminar on pond management some years back. The biologist commented upon crappie in ponds. The basic issue seems to be that crappie spawn earlier than the other panfishes, early enough...
That is a really great idea! I believe that a lot of very old fly fishing way up in Maine was done by trolling. I may have to give that "strolling trolling" a whirl.
This is such a cunningly simple, brilliant idea! I have never really tied parachutes - 1. in Texas foam spiders/poppers are the topwater of choice and 2. tying in the parachute has always been a...
Hey Bill, if its simply trout you are after then you likely do have to drive a bit. But what about the warm water scene? There might be a lot more local fishing than originally thought - get out the...
