They are. I don't eat fish, but everything I've heard is that they are really good light, white & flakey.
They are tons of fun, and a little like bluegill on some serious steroids.

I've been dabbling in the dark arts of saltwater fishing from the beach this summer...here's a few things I've found...

there's never a good reason to NOT add another rod to the quiver...
I've only had this reel out one day swinging for steel. I prefer spring/pawl reels for steelhead and need extra funds to fund another project, so away it goes. Comes with blank card & is in mint...
The Renegade is one of my goto patterns for sipping trout. I'll fishing it dry, wet, swung, dead drifted...it just plain works, so I fish it.
Most of my clothes are earth tones, so that's what I wear. I think a more important thing is to move slowly and quietly...
This is a trap you'll fall deeper and deeper into. I did, and I have zero regrets. I went ahead and splurged on a Steffen and the 8' 5/6 is probably the most versatile rod I own. It lays dries...
The absolute BEST way to taco a fly rod is this:

sorry, no action shots with it...but it was fun...that was the...
ok, I'll play...yes, that is me walking on water, which is much more amazing than the "taco" effect IMHO...

just have him get away from these rocket launchers they call fly rods these days and get him into a nice older (or new) glass or bamboo rod. They literally cast themselves. And, as mentioned,...
Where are the newbies? many probably lurk and simply have started using that "search" function to find what they're looking for since this, and many other sites have incredible amounts of archived...
that's a pretty broad statement. While this may be the case, it also may not be.
Personally, I like a slower action rod, It has nothing to do with how good or poor my casting ability is (I would...

wait a minute, how'd that get in there...
ok, Redbands are definitely the prettiest in my...
+1 on the Redington CT. I have the 5wt and it is sweet and smooth as butter....I can only imagine that the 3wt is the same.
also,
+1 on the Echo classic from a few years ago. This, I do have...
IMO, the absolute best float tube rod is a 3pc. S-glass, on the side it says Steffen Bros. 8' 5/6. I've never had a problem with lifting line off the water with shorter rods....all that's required...
Skeeters are probably a main reason I don't make the effort to get over there more often...It seems like they're around all spring/summer/fall. I do love that water and you are right, some VERY nice...
can't help you with the identification, but reminds me of a morning a couple of years ago when I found a Hexagenia dun on my front porch...in NE Portland.
I ended up getting the 9' 5wt., and like others have stated, it is buttery smooth. It's a tad faster than my Steffen Brothers glass rod (not a lot though) but it really shines over here on the...
how about a hat, then you don't have to have anything in your pockets

a buddy of mine just tried one out (the 10' 6wt) and it broke within 6 casts. But, and this is a big but, their warranty is phenomenal (he already has his new one in hand with minimal wait time). ...
Echo Classic....they are great rods, I have a 3wt that I really like. It's too bad they stopped making them. Good luck finding one.
great info, thanks a bunch. I won't be able to get this weekend as I HAVE to fish the Metolius for lowly trout & mountain bones for three days but I'll certainly put some of this info to use next...
depends on my mood on any particular day...hell, I have about five or six different fishing bags of different sizes that get used periodically depending on what I feel like...sometimes I wish I had...
is there a particular time of day that you guys find to be most productive?
Thanks for the insight...There are several spots on the Willamette that look really "bassy" that I'm hoping to check out later in the week. That was just too much fun once we started hooking a...
