The Hardy Smuggler is a classic.

Great topic.
Mostly I tie the fly to copy the bug to catch the fish.
oft times it requires more than one style of tie to fool the fish.....especially if they are educated.

Color may not matter....but finish does.
A matte finish reflects less light than a gloss finish. Same goes for rods, actually. This makes a difference in close quaters if you fish facing the sun.
