Yikes!! I'm headin' down that long lonesome highway!
Drag.....agitated....yes!!!
Oh, I see we are to agitate the fly! Well yes, when we understand how different nymphs act while rising to the surface of the water.
How many just drift to the...
Aah karma....I like that Jim! Also the juxtaposition of your success with your flies v/s others is very thought provoking.
This is a question I've often pondered. Why, with certain fly patterns you seem to fish better, and thus, catch more fish?
Is it psychological? Is it a confidence issue? Is it ingrained memory?...
Fantastic looking fly, very fishy, and your photo is outstanding!!
The Quad W.....I like it!!

One of our fine Forum members has offered to send me a 1495 1/2 (lhw) to play with
and make sure it mates with the "Beast" of a rod I'm wanting to use it with.
I would say it is an Ocean City reel made for Sears and Roebuck (their J.C. Higgins brand).
Is there a drag setting marked 1 to 4?
As to the drag, I'm not sure but 47 series reels may have had a...
Sounds like it might be an Indian Outlaw!!
Agreed. Way too technical for novice casters. Who really cares about such nuances?
Heck, they're just wanting to get the fly out there and hopefully hook a fish.
Personally, I could care less...
Does look real buggy upstream, but being a contrarian, I'd walk downstream a good ways and fish back up.
Love all those bends with probably deep cut underbanks, plus I prefer to fish up.
no problemo!!
Been there....never could find some of the old flies I was looking for.
Anyone have anything on the Red Trout Minnow Streamer by Joe Mandel????
Man, that's the total opposite ends of the spectrum....NewTyer1 and Jerry!!
Clousers, Muddler Minnows, Woolly Buggers, Dahlberg Divers, a few different poppers, ants on occasion, Hornberg streamer (a particular favorite of mine),
or anything fishy or buggy looking. Smallies...
Thanks for all the thoughts and good info.
Will go with my first inclination....bluegills and largemouths.
And yes, our local farm agents here in NC can be of great help!
Thanks for the comments so far...appreciated.
I'm of the school "never stock crappie in a small pond, they will take over".
Just from the fishing experiences I have had in this regard.
It is no...
I have fished farm ponds that are either overrun with crappie or bluegill.
They both seem to be stunted to some extent when either of the two species predominate the pond population of fishes.
My...
Down locking. For the reasons you have stated and I just like it better. I think maybe for balance....can't really say for sure.
Would like to hear more comprehensive thoughts.
Run across many a copperhead while fishing here in North Carolina. Just walk around them. Learned to be careful where I step though.
Haven't seen a rattler but have heard them several times off the...
So, did you you super glue the fish to the rod?
The only time a classic well-tied old pattern won't catch a trout is when that trout is 40 to 50 years old and has total recall!
Don Gapen's Muddler Minnow....

This is great! I was not aware I could get a lifetime inland fishing license in North Carolina when I turned 65 for the grand total of $15.00!
Got one now!!
I think after a few weeks I'd just blow my brains out!!
Just kidding!! Maybe I'd just cut my throat!
Ah, just kidding!! Maybe just jump off a 100' cliff!
Ah, just kidding!! Is the gas on??
Funny, all the fly fishermen I meet on stream all ready "know it all"!
Can't help you with your questions flyfysher but I surely envy you!!
