Parafilm is alright but it's not elastic like scud back and not very durable if you stretch it. Unstretched though I guess it would be alright but it's kind of cool stuff to work with.

HI Ray,
Is that ultra fine? If I remember correctly it's around 1.8 or 2lb test. I tie all my striper flies with it, mostly because it becomes clear when wet.
If there was already an existing and readily available fly database I don't think this would be too hard. But as Jeff says, the biggest part is entering all the fly patterns and materials list for...
It looks alright but doesn't seem like it would work with smaller materials where clips are better. I might try one for using longer dubbings etc.. and making small brushes as it seems stacking...
I think people get too caught up with the ought's and denier meaning the same thing when they don't. Some people will just say well, that Gordon Griffith's 14/0 is the same denier as that 55 denier...
Hmmm, wonder why this fly is just popping up on all the boards all of a sudden. It's been out for years. Normand has it right, but don't flatten the mono, leave it round as it'll help form the...
Yeah, but I don't think it's all that of a secret. I think people just try to push products they like or prefer. A lot of the synthetics (especially the mylars etc...) are the same stuff except...
I would say the tail was too sparse or too short maybe? It could also have something to do with the hook you are using as well.
In general, when I tie dries, when I'm done I will take the fly...
I was probably at the same fair and it seems Targus really branched out..... The shop pretty much just replaced one wall with Targus products.... Dubbing, flash material, hooks, and synthetic hair...
The groove is actually one of the main circulatory "ateries" for that larva. A lot of insects have them but they're especially apparent on caterpillars etc.... If you watch carefully enough you can...
I use it tying shad patterns and it casts easy and doesn't soak up much water and it sheds it well.
HI Normand,
Thanks for chiming in. I was thinking the same way about my capes and saddles too. For me, spending a fair amount of money on a vise was moot since my material costs add up to way...
With any product there are people who like it and people who don't. I have all the conversions for my vice and multiple set ups of the fine point as Norm modified a damaged set to be finer, included...
I like mine and Norm is pretty good about replacing incidentals or adjusting the vice as you require. The auto-bobbin is what I love the most though. I'm sending my vice in soon to get it upgraded...
I like STS Trilobal dub.... but this dubbing is pretty nice too.

I just want to try the Polaris stuff out because the guy who invented it seems like a real character... his youtube videos are great sometimes, especially when he starts a rant...
What about those midge saddles Whiting has?? I know they can be pricey but the ones I have look nice and should tie small....
The first few flies I tied with this stuff floated.... so I never put much faith in it's sinking ability but I do like the way it looks and dubs.
Jeff
I added a "sub" wing I guess. I thought it came out pretty good. Haven't fished it so I can't say if the action is different or not.

One quick note.... if he said oiler puffs these are different than your standard pack of CDC. They are shorter and denser and sold separately. I will pull mine out when I get home and see what the...
Hey Bob,
Try lead tape as well. You can cut it into thin strips with a razor blade or a disc type paper cutter. (and I mean thin, like the diameter of the hook shank). Now you can layer it on...
I like using the smallest thread I can. I use Gordon Griffith's 14/0 for just about everything, even big streamers if I'm too lazy to change spools of thread on the bobbin. It splits well too for...
Bob,
I think it's the subtle bend in the 200r that could be the problem. If you get too much weight on the center of gravity it will flip over due to that slight hump. More weight on the front...
Hey Hook,
I'd still be proud of thinking it up for yourself, maybe you weren't the first to do it but you did it on your own and that counts for something in my book.
I usually buy based on what type of hook I'm looking for. Brands don't matter as long as the style is right. If I'm not happy with that brand I will try another and if I like that style/brand I'll...
