Great project to start on. I don't know about the granite top. Might be OK-depending on the color and if it is sealed and impervious to glues and head cements. I'd suggest a laminated Formica top...

Jack was "Cool". I got to meet Jack at a tying show out in California a few years back. He was very happy sharing his knowledge. I took...
A way to fish the surf and survive is to fish with someone else there. Solo surf FF is risky. Also-use chest waders and two wader belts. One at the waist and one high up at chest level. Wear a...
I had them add this to an Indexer, and the other vises (signature and Tube Vise) came with this set-up if i remember correctly. I do not care for the standard crank-at all. Had them put the Sig....
Clay-I have some input for you on the sidewinder handle style. I have that handle (Brass wheel with small handle) on thre vises.. I tied a few flies and notices that I used the handle a little more...
A great writer provokes deep thoughts & action, places you in "in-the-momemt", entertains, educates, inspires, challenges the reader; and a little humor along the way helps too.
Best part?...
Actually that might not work Eric: The profile plates from DK are made of a plastic sheet that has a finely textured surface with a matte finish. It is an anti-glare color and very even in tone. I...
I have the blue and grey DK plate materials and like them both. The blue is easy on the yes. I use them all the time.
I don't like the handles at all and have had the factory put the brass wheel on three vises for me. I really like spinning with the palm of the hand rather than cranking. Everyone will have a...
First-off:Nice work. Secondly-did the thought cross your mind that the customer who brought in that trashed rod was the "Other Guy" that screwed up the rod? ha Ha That was my first thought. You...
You are welcome WarrenP. So to capture all the critiques given so far: Keep the narrow red gill band, bigger eyes, and then return to the sparse tie of the original image and then add a little flash...
That looks cool. Where is the birch bark? The stabilizing process sounds messy. I can see why you don't want to perform that again.. What did you use for the winding check?
Great looking rod
Now were talkin' ! That dog will hunt.
That is impressive. You have to be "deserving" to get 4-for-4 and then have them 4 different species to boot. Thanks for posting the pics.
It is nicely made. However, I feel the red "gill" section is too wide and is tied too far back. Bigger eyeballs would attract even better. My 3 cents..
Nice pattern
FYI-From the manufacturer's website FAQ's:
Q: Is there a correct way to wear the MagEyes?
A: The MagEyes were designed to be worn with the lens flat side to the face and the lens bar (area...
That sounds like a lot of work! Do you have any pictures of that rod after you restored it?
Thanks. One response I got today from an inquirey was as follows:
""Palakona" is just what Hardy called it's bamboo manufacturing process,
it dosn't really mean anything other than as a brand...
It is inked on the Hardy Bamboo rod. Therefore-I'll repeat your question: What is it referenced to? I can find all sorts of linkage to "Palakona" and Hardy. Can't seem to pinpoint the definition of...
Bob/All:
Well this is my first-ever bamboo fly rod and I am excited; sure enough!

The only other bamboo rod I own is an old 7 foot, one piece...
Thanks All for the excellent information. I think you guys nailed it. I appreciate the history and the images too. I can imagine the detailed work put into getting so many thin and evenly spaced...
I have looked at a new Hardy cc de France 7 foot 2 pice 4 wt rod and it is gorgeous of course. There are a series of narrow winding bands (red thread) equally spaced along the length of the rod. ...
Good looking colors
I looks to me like you are stradling that ice chest. That can't be real comfy can it? But maybe there is room to spare? Can't see that well from the angle of the pics. What do you like about the...
