Where do you get your wire?
Observations and advice? I sometimes fish a farm pond with a healthy bass population. Poppers that I have purchased that are weedless have been successful in raising strikes, but I have failed to...
A farm pond I fish does regularly exhibit a late morning dragon fly hatch-the hotter the better. Gills and bass are active during this period.
The hardest part about pond fishing is which flyrod to take. So, take one loaded for larger bass and one for gills/crappie! Makes you also the trout fishing outings that seem to take more time. . . .
Monday morning I visited a local Nebraska farm pond. I caught several decent bass on a Gerbubble popper in shallow water. Fish exhibited splashy rises with frequency, more intensely with increasing...
Thanks, Dave. You are a big help!
I have a couple of young grandsons living in Ankeny who I'd like to introduce to bobbers, worms and rock throwing. Does anyone have knowledge as to whether the parks-ponds would be a good...
Nice touch. Anyone who has fished with a Dad and later with a Son can smile after reading "Memories". rever
Simple: Leader with a perfection loop, tied to the line with a half hitch. The line already has a half-hitch prior to the leader connection.
Ralph, I always look forward to reading your articles. A favorite poet with an Eastern fishing beginning, Greg Kuzma, writes about life "in the other world". We need that water-fish-solace experience...
Recently while removing the reel from the rod-reel seat, a crack in the cork was produced as the foot of the reel came in contact with the cork. Any suggestions on a glue that might be used to firmly...
Thank you for your insight. Unlike flies, t is too easy to take reels, line and rod for granted and simply fish. . . .
Instructions for my Flystart reel recommend using grease for lubrication. Any suggestions as to what is good to use and where to purchase?
Somehow those very personal losses are better handled after having knelled on that gravel bed beside the stream. Thanks for your article.
Does anyone have a pattern for this fly that they especially like for smaller trout streams? A friend described that this pattern is now his favorite searching dry fly. It does have similarities to...
Are there patterns or applications that you suggest as a use of Black Bear Hair?
I use an 8 wt; 8.5'; fiberglass rod (relatively stiff) throwing clouser minnows and larger poppers. I've caught larger bass in the 3# to 5+# range and like having the "back bone" the rod has. In...
I have seen both versions identified as the clouser minnow.
I am partial to an old glass 8.5 ft, 8 weight that I use primarily for largemouth bass. I am most often using larger poppers and weighted clouser minnows. I have used a 6 wt, but like the 8 wt for...
Thanks, Gordon. The FAOL instructions are excellent.
Does anyone know how to get to the site that was <www.troutflies.com> It had outstanding tutorials on tying about two dozen flies.
I was given a baby food jar filled with kapok long ago by a friend who owned cabins on Pine Creek. Frequently I have used dubbed hopper bodies with the material with good results.
Neil's question and resolution, along with all of the posts couldn't have come at a better time for me.
