Nice fish! Almost worth waiting for.
Wasn't familiar with the t.c.t.k. so I had to look it up and saw that it is your creation. The minimalist in me loves it! The tinkerer in me immediately thought that if you are using a relatively...
You're way ahead of me. I should have thought of that. The off hand IS oft busy.
Bamboozle,
1. Your left hand is for your wading staff. Now you have no excuse not to use one.
2. I completely agree that line visibility is critical, but hi-vis level lines are available.

Did that with one of my crappie rods before I could get a real tenkara rod. It works, after a fashion, but you are then far enough away from the "fish close" connection and simplicity of tenkara that...
I have never tried Amnesia, but I have tried various weights of mono, including 20# test. The 20# test works (as does 17#), but I much prefer fluorocarbon. Because if it's greater density it is...
If you have other questions - don't hesitate to ask or send me a PM.
Four feet. Straight 5x for wets and scuds, but when I fish a dry fly I'll often use 8" each of 0x, 2x, and 4x, then 2' of 5x.
To the extent possible, I keep the line is out of the water so I...
I told him he might have to provide his own thread, cuz I though you might only have earth tones ;-)
(Chartreuse is my second choice behind white.)
Absolutely!
I usually fish a wet fly upstream with short drifts. If I can't see the line as I'm casting, I'll miss the first half of the drift before I can find it and make sure there's no excess...
That's the same impression I got when I tried one of her lines. I have to agree with you also on the light color. I just can't see a green line against this background:

Ron,
For me, number of hairs at the butt end depends mostly on the rod but also on how heavy I want the line to be. The Ayu rod that John has will cast a very light line. For my Ayu, I've...
John,
You're making the twisted leader construction much more complicated than it needs to be. One of the primary benefits of tenkara is that you can keep nearly all the line off the water. If...
TyroneFly,
For those streams and fish I would use an 11' Iwana, although the 12' Iwana and the Ebisu would also be reasonable choices. The shorter Iwana fits the narrow stream the best, and would...
Beaver,
You're right. With no weight, you fish dries, emergers or wets a few inches under the surface. Wets tied on a heavy hook, like a Daiichi 1120 or even a Mustad R90 will fish a bit deeper....
That's what I thought when I first started fishing with a tenkara rod. It took me a long time to realize that they are actually much better at what they were designed for - fishing an unweighted wet...
Yes and no. The tips are so flexible that they really do bend rather than break on landing a fish, and they distribute the strain over the entire rod. Tips do break, though, mostly from collapsing...
John,
As Heritage Angler said, welcome to the world of tenkara. Although tenkara won't do everything, you'll notice more and more places where it will work just fine.
When you demo the 12'...
